The Preamble to the UNESCO Constitution establishes the ideal of the Organization: "Since wars begin in the minds of men and women, it is in the minds of men and women that the defenses of peace must be constructed." As a specialized agency of the United Nations, UNESCO contributes to the building of peace, eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, science, culture, communication and information.
