75 years since the launch of the UNESCO Constitution
Article published on 16-11-2020
The United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) is the expression of the noblest ideals that underpin the United Nations system: ensuring international peace and cooperation through access to education, eliminating social discrimination, protecting cultural and natural heritage, encouraging communication and scientific exchange.
November 16 is the day when, 75 years ago, the international conference that launched the Constitution of the Organization ended, an expression of the confidence that the world, just out of the Second World War, had in the capacity of humanity to build a better future: "since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed".
Through scientific knowledge, intercultural and inter-religious communication, equal access to education, honesty in sports competitions, respect for cultural heritage, UNESCO has been fighting for 75 years to defend the ideals that gave birth to it. Romania is proud to contribute to this constant struggle for the highest values of humanity and is honored to receive from the Organization the recognition of the importance of its culture and traditions.
Happy birthday UNESCO!
