Expert Workshop on Education for Sustainable Development 2030

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Commission for UNESCO organized today, via Zoom, an Expert Workshop on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 2030, with the participation of Mrs. Madlen Șerban, Secretary General of RO Natcom. The welcome statements were presented by Dr. Thomas Greiner, Deputy Director-General for Lifelong Learning at the German Ministry of Education and Research, and Prof. Dr. Maria Böhmer, President of the German Commission for UNESCO.
Module 1 ”ESD for 2030 - national processes and strategies to implement the new UNESCO Programme” featured presentations and discussions on key features of the new programme, and exchange on good-practice examples regarding intersectoral and regional collaboration and youth participation:
- Input 1: ESD for 2030, Country Initiatives and ESD.net: Won Jung Byun, Senior Project Officer, UNESCO
- Input 2: Education for sustainable development in Sweden: Anna-Karin Johansson, Secretary-General, Swedish National Commission for UNESCO
Module 2 "ESD for 2030 – The big transformation" contained presentations and discussions on how to include the focus areas of ESD 2030 into national strategies and exchange on good-practice examples regarding inter alia transformative action, ESD and digitalisation, ESD monitoring:
- Input 3: National ESD-Monitoring - Reflexive Monitoring in Action: How can monitoring help advance transformative action and the implementation of ESD in existing structures?: Prof. Dr. Gerhard de Haan, Scientific Advisor, German National Platform on ESD, Freie Universität Berlin
- Input 4: Transformative Learning in Action: Dr. Rehema White, University of St Andrews, Chair: Learning for Sustainability, Scotland
Module 3 "Local Level Action on ESD" involved presentations and discussions on the role of non-formal educational settings to support local level engagement and actors to implement ESD at the local level:
- Input 5: Integrated local approaches for ESD: Klara Sokol, éducation 21, Switzerland
