NATURWEIT AGAIN AT THE START!
Article published on 19-09-2022
The partnership between the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO and the National Commission of Germany for UNESCO continues in the development of the international volunteering program Naturweit.
Under this program, young Germans aged between 18 and 26 are volunteering in the field of natural sciences, engaging in activities to promote an inclusive and sustainable society, in accordance with the principles of UNESCO.
Eva Metz and Clara Niewmann are the two new volunteers who arrived in Romania and who will carry out their voluntary cycle for six and twelve months, respectively, in the Programme for UNESCO Geopark, coordinated by the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics of the University of Bucharest.
Let’s get to know them at the beginning of the journey!
Eva Metz
Social commitment plays a very important role in my life and I have been active in environmental protection for several years. At the same time, I see an experience abroad as an important opportunity for personal growth and further education. I try to educate myself and gain experience in many different areas. By volunteering abroad, I hope to be able to combine these two things. I chose UNESCO because nature is very important to me and practical work is a new experience for me.
I have been campaigning for more environmental and climate protection for a long time, but I have had very little practical experience in this area so far. However, I find it very important to deal more intensively with the actual reality in nature reserves. By working in the field, I hope to find another connection to nature and at the same time to master the challenge of finding my way in an environment that is new to me.
I'm very excited to find my way in another country and learn a new language. I also hope to be able to do more practical and physical work and acquire new skills in this field. In addition, I think that through the volunteer service my independence, my social skills and my intercultural competence will be promoted. I am really looking forward to my voluntary work!
Clara Niewmann
I am from Falkensee, a city next to Berlin. For about two years, I’ve been working in a climate activist group. A climate friendly behavior is one of my main priorities for a long time now. When having some free time, I love drawing and playing or listening to music. I like doing sports, too.
This year, I finished school and decided to get myself into the adventure of a volunteering service abroad. It was clear that I want to do a kind of natural service because that's what I am interested in.
In the context of my volunteering, I'm willing to learn a lot about the concept of a geopark and it's aiming. I would be glad to help organising some projects, too. Further, I hope to get the chance to make some good experiences in the geopark itself.
We wish the two volunteers a fruitful stay in Romania and we value the collaboration with our partners from Germany!
