Romania becomes vice-president of the Bureau of the Conference of States Parties to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage.
On 30 and 31 May 2017, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the works of the 6th meeting (conference) of the States Parties to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage (2001) took place. The works were preceded, on 29 May, by a session of exchanges of views and reflections on the possible role and contribution of the 2001 Convention on sustainable development in the context of the 2030 Agenda.
At the meeting, Romania was elected vice-president of the Conference Bureau of States Parties, alongside Panama, South Africa and Palestine. The President of the Bureau is France, and the rapporteur is Cambodia. The mandate of the new Bureau will end in the spring of 2019, at the beginning of the 7th meeting of the States Parties to the 2001 Convention, when the new Bureau will be designated.
Romania became a party to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage in 2007.
