The first meeting of Romania’s Learning Cities Network, which includes the three local public administrations of Reșița, Cugir, and Galați, was held on October 22. Hosted by Reșița City Hall, this inaugural event themed "Collaboration and Innovation in Romania’s UNESCO Learning Cities," took place under the patronage of the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO, marking a significant step in advancing lifelong learning initiatives across Romanian cities within the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
Alongside representatives of the three local administrations, including the mayors of Reșița, Ioan Popa, and Cugir, Adrian Teban, as well as Marian Ochiu, GNLC focal point for Galați, the discussions also featured participants from academia, the business sector, and non-governmental organizations.
The event featured four panel discussions, beginning with an exploration of UNESCO's concept of Learning Cities. The remaining three panels focused on sharing experiences and best practices from each city, highlighting their ongoing projects and successful initiatives aimed at fostering lifelong learning and sustainable development at the local level.
The National Commission of Romania for UNESCO extends its gratitude to the organizers and participants of this meeting, as well as to Ms. Isabell Kemp, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, for her insightful video message.
