Participation of the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO in the Centennial of the Institute of Intellectual Cooperation

The Romanian National Commission for UNESCO participated on September 13, 2024, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, in the international conference titled: "Celebrating a Century of International Intellectual Cooperation: From Legacy to Future Actions," dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IICI), the precursor to UNESCO. The event was organized at the initiative of Romania's Ambassador to UNESCO, H.E.. Simona-Mirela Miculescu, who also serves as the President of the 42nd session of UNESCO's General Conference, in partnership with the Permanent Delegations of France, Japan, Monaco, and Romania to UNESCO, the UNESCO Secretariat, as well as the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and the Cultural Association "Heritage for the Future."
The conference featured two thematic panels. The first panel explored various aspects of the IICI's work and the current status of the institute's documentary heritage. The second panel, moderated by Mr. Alexandre Navarro, Secretary-General of the French Commission for UNESCO, focused on exploring future actions to strengthen intellectual cooperation mechanisms. Codrin Tăut, an expert from the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO's Culture Sub-commission, presented the series of events organized by the Romanian Commission over the past four years, aimed at highlighting Romanian contributions to international cultural cooperation, as well as the latest publication titled
Romanian Contributions to International Intellectual Cooperation: Historical and Diplomatic Landmarks, which is part of this program.
During the discussions with the other participants at the roundtable, moderated by Mr. Alexandre Navarro, Secretary General of the French Commission for UNESCO, along with Prof. Ana Maria Cetto, Prof. Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Prof. Gloria Origgi, and Ernesto Montéquin, the representative of CNR UNESCO explored future scenarios for strengthening intellectual cooperation at the national, regional, and global levels.
The Romanian National Commission for UNESCO expresses its gratitude to Prof. Univ. Mircea Duțu, Director of the "Acad. Andrei Rădulescu" Institute of Legal Research of the Romanian Academy, who has been a constant partner of this project, as well as to all individuals who, over time, have participated in roundtables or publications coordinated by the Commission on this topic.
