The international project „West meets East - a cultural book exchange” is based on the cooperation between artists from different socio-cultural backgrounds and different continents. It is not only a professional exchange, but also a complex way of communication that lays in time the foundation of strong friendships.
The theme of the exhibition is Books, reinterpreted in the form of exceptional contemporary art objects. The exhibits have crossed the ocean to Warwick (U.S.A.), traveling back in Romania afterwards through important galleries in Bucharest (UNAgaleria, Exhibition Hall “Constantin Brâncuși” of The Palace of Parliament, Gallery, Piaţa Spaniei Gallery), Iași (the Gallery ,,Nicolae Tonitza”), Constanţa (Museum of Art), Alexandria (County Library ,,Marin Preda”) and Focșani (Art Gallery).
The project arose from the need of international artistic collaboration and has inspired artists, professors and students of various universities from Romania and abroad.
So far, the participants have been freelance artists from Romania, U.S.A., Netherlands, India, Slovakia, Poland, Italy, Germany, France; professors, graduates and students of the National University of Arts in Bucharest, the University of Arts “George Enescu” Iași, the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca, the Faculty of Arts Galaţi, the West University of Timișoara (Romania), Worcester State College, Quinsigamond Community College, The Massachusetts College of Art & Design (U.S.A.).
This is the Xth edition of the project, initiated in 2009 by the American visual artist Joanne R. Luongo and the Romanian visual artist Daniela Frumușeanu.
